Video surveillance

A security system that not only captures the fact but also provides visual evidence is a video surveillance system. Its main functions are visualization, recording and processing of video material - analytics. The main parameters of the display are the image quality (resolution) and the number of frames per second.

The main criteria for recording are duration and quality. Poor quality does not allow the details to be distinguished and the duration of the recording allows you to see past events. Video processing (analytics) makes it possible to replace an operator who is constantly watching and making decisions with an operating algorithm based on information from the video and a pre-programmed operating scenario.

The analytics facilitate the handling of the recorded material and allow the selection of search criteria, which helps the operator to quickly find the required event in large amount of video material. The main parameter is the resolution of the video, which shows the detail of the picture. Resolution is measured in pixels (megapixels Mpx). Below are the abbreviations for the most commonly used resolutions and a comparison of the pictures.

  • CIF 360x240 very low quality
  • VGA 640x480 low resolution
  • D1 720x576 analog camera resolution
  • 960H 960x582 improved analog camera resolution
  • 720p HD 1MPx 1 megapixel resolution
  • 1080p Full HD 2MPx 2 megapixel resolution
  • 2160p 4K UHD 8.3 MPx 8.3 megapixel resolution

The second most important parameter is the number of frames per second. The human eye can detect 25 frames per second, with fewer frames, the movement looks jerky. Recording is often done using equipment capable of recording more than 25 shots and is needed to observe the details of fast moving objects (cars on the road, number fixation, recognition of people, etc.). Increasing the resolution and frame rate per second increases the total size of video that requires storage resources (hard disk or array).

As technology advances, new technologies and solutions are emerging every day. The range of products is so wide that even technically educated and knowledgeable people sometimes find it difficult to make choices. How to properly choose a video surveillance system?

Many try to analyse the situation and find a solution themselves, others turn to professionals, consult and save both time and means without buying redundant or inappropriate hardware.

Fortell Ltd offers to design, customize and install a video surveillance system, ranging from a single IP camera with remote control ons a cell phone to a complex security solution with a connection to the Central Security Console, which usually replaces the on-site security guard brigade. Properly selected complex security project allows you to see wherever cameras are located, protect wherever there are detectors, and to save resources throughout the lifetime.
